Blog for Wednesday 4th December 2024

I woke up on my own this morning – no alarm needed, as I had slept well last night and my body had had a good rest for a large portion of yesterday.

I woke up feeling a lot better, but so many muscles were not happy as a result of the heave-ho-ing yesterday as yelled, “Hello Louis!” into the enamel bowl, (commonly known as the toilet!)

No matter what, I  decided that I must go into town and get most of my Christmas shopping done and dusted this morning.

So, I showered and got dressed, waved my “Good-byes!” to ken, canines, one cat and a lot of cattle as I bounced, banged and bopped down the road, over the river and off on the Highway as I headed for Port Macquarie.

The time was then half past seven in the morning.

Thankfully, I was ahead of the school buses, parents delivering their children to school for the day  and the road was not that busy until after Wauchope where it became a battlefield for the brave! My goodness, gracious, golly gee, it was a bottleneck from the donut to the circle before the Industrial Turnoff. But it was good for me as my confidence as a driver in not such nice conditions was back!  Full force! No more scaredy-cat me!

I headed for Kmart first and as I was early it was a pleasure to walk around deciding what I needed for gifts. I had worked on a list of ideas, so it was easy shopping really as I had a plan, plus the hustle and bustle had not yet begun, it only was beginning as I left the shop!

From there I fought my way along the road jammed now with vehicles going every which way to “The Good Guys” in the Industrial area where I needed to buy a gift and then I turned to head back home.

It was so hot and I was not feeling one hundred percent well yet, so I was more than ready to call my shopping done and dusted for the day!

I stopped in Wauchope to get fuel for my little car and I also needed tissue paper from the News Agency and then it was home again, home again jiggety jog!

Once down at the river I transferred all my shopping into the ute’ as it looked as if the sky was about to open and let the rain tumble down, but … it did not.

As I was opening and then shutting the gate between the Large River Camp and the Small River Camp I noticed a little calf – a brand new little calf was almost drowning in the thick  sludgy muddy water at the gate to the entrance of the Large River Camp. Poor little thing had got his hind leg caught in the wire at the bottom of that gate (an almost impossible thing to have done!)  and was exhausted trying to pull it out. He had sunk down and was barely keeping his head above the thick sludge, in fact, several times it looked as if he had gone under. I rolled my pants up and took my shoes off  and waded through the thick, deep and awful water mixed with a lot of mooh-pooh sludge to help the little guy, but there was little I could do without wire cutters.    So, I phoned Ken and asked him  to come down to help with some wire cutters pronto, and between the two of us we set the little calf free.

What amazes me about animals, like in a case like that, his mum, who is very protective and more than likely to charge, knew we were there to help her and her calf and although she was very close by and watching our every move, she allowed us to help her calf.

So, all ended well, but not so well for my snowy white longs though - as you may well imagine! Lots of soaking and washing needed to get them white again!

Once home, I unloaded the ute’, had a quick shower and sorted out my shopping before finishing the ironing from yesterday, and then I swept and tidied, loaded the dishwasher and generally created order from chaos!

In the late afternoon Sandra phoned me to organize our Bible Study Group Christmas lunch together. We are going to have it on Tuesday 10th December and I will bring the cold meats for that and bake a cake.

Ah yes! That is what I did when passing through Wauchope on my way home, I made a quick stop at “The Holy Cow Butchery” to let Shane know that his boerewors (South African sausage) is absolutely delicious! He was so happy about that.

Yoh! My next big task is to start wrapping Christmas gifts and have them all organized with cards written as well.

But first I need to finish preparing my SRE lessons for tomorrow. I have prepared them, but I like to go over them several times before I present the lessons.

I am so looking forward to the classes tomorrow as I promised the children that we would play the game “Toss the Water Bottle” game, and they are so keen to try. I had wanted to try it last week as it looked like such fun, (I saw it on a game online program) but as I was not able to do it myself, I decided not to even try to get the children to do it. But the kids have asked me to please play it. I will let you know how we go! It could be great fun or total chaos! Either will be good!

For our supper tonight I will have a cold supper as it has been horribly hot again today and I honestly do not feel like slaving over the stove. Plus, a light meal will be good for us both.

What lesson did I learn today? To make a plan and stick to it.

What am I grateful for today? That I got most of my Christmas shopping done today!

My saying for today is …
