Blog for Wednesday 16th April 2025

Actually, I have one but a different model!

My wireless doorbell!

It is my precious husband’s 82nd birthday today and he is still in hospital, and I am here on the wrong side of the river without any means of getting over! I told him his birthday will be on a different day this year as we can only celebrate it when he comes out of hospital and is here, home again!

It looks like Ken will be able to come home this Saturday. How wonderful! We just need to work out how to get him across the river gently and safely.

I am so excited to give him his birthday gift this year as I know this time I really have hit the jackpot idea for his gift and Mich’ et famille and Paddy et famille have contributed to it too! I pray Ken thinks so too!

It is also one of our nephews’ birthdays today too – so “Happy Birthday Quinton in Canada! Celebrate in style. We will be seeing you in August this year – whoo-hoo!”

I made the three beds up in the first shed area off our living area, for Paddy and Matt’ to choose from. I am noticing that the early mornings are pretty nippy now, so I got out some blankets for them too. It is incredible how the seasons know their time and arrive on time too!

I draped all the crinkled clothing waiting to be ironed over the couch back, pulled out the ironing board and then thought, ‘What a silly idea!’  I would do the ironing a little later!

You will be pleased to know that I overcame those thoughts of laziness and did three quarters of the ironing! I still have a few tops to iron and will do them in the early morning.

My energy ran out.

This afternoon Raafie and I went out on the quad bike – me to check that the bottom shed doors were still shut – one of our heifer’s fancies having the odd nibble of the bull’s feed in there!

Then I went down to check the gate into the Middle Camp – Ken said to keep it open, and it was, so that was good.

As my mouth is still very tender, I had ice cream for supper tonight! It was the peach ice cream that I made over Christmas or New Year for us all, and it was still very yummy.

Raafie and I were in bed early again, snuggled down and soon fast asleep.

What lesson did I learn today? Some things take time to grow, to heal, to blah-blah-blah fish paste!

What am I grateful for today? That Ken will be coming home this Saturday.

My saying for today is …
