Blog for Thursday 27th March 2025

I had a much better sleep last night and no wonder I was finished by bedtime after having  only  slept three hours the night before! That made for a good deep sleep last night.

I am  missing Shamara and especially in the very early  mornings as she was my companion at that time while the rest of our household slept on. I am so grateful that I had her as a loyal friend for such a long time and I should celebrate that and not get dragged down by the sadness of her not being around anymore.

Today I continued washing and tumble drying as the days are so crazy at the moment I am never sure when the skies will open up and a heavy shower fall down.

This morning, I did all the ironing, but will have plenty more as the washing dries inn the tumble drier. But … for today I am on top of the crinkled and once wrinkled clothing so there is nothing more to iron. Whoo-hoo!

I went over my school SRE lessons one more time and had to print a few more worksheets for the older class. I always  look forward to spending time with these children -  most of them I have taught since kindergarten and who are now in Year 6!

I swept and tidied our home but did not bother mopping because with all this rain Raafie runs in and out with muddy paws and I work up a sweat trying to keep the floor clean.

Today there was to be no sweating over floors.

There was none shed!

At just after one o’clock  today Ken took me across the river on the tractor to my little vehicle so I could go to school. The river is up a bit and if we get the rain they were forecasting for this coming week we will be cut off with the river too high to cross again. But hey! The weathermen have been known to be wrong too!

I had a wonderful  day at school today although the younger class was  like a bucket of frogs, leaping about with gay abandon! My classes are the last of the day and the kindies are so tired by then and just wanting to go back home, so I expect that sort of behavior on the odd day.

Today I was so impressed by both classes as I did not lead them  in the signing of the Lord’s Prayer, nor did I recite the words, but both classes did it without making any mistakes at all! I just almost popped with pride at their effort!

Today I got the children to fetch the bin of Bibles from the library as I want to teach them how to look up the stories that I tell them, so they an see that I get them from the Bible. In the older class I have twenty-four children but I only have nineteen Bibles in this class, so I need to find five more Bibles. The one little girl offered to look in the other classrooms for me before our next lesson, as she has seen some lying around she thinks.

I am sure I took some to use in Kids Church, (in our church,) but at the moment the children attending that are far too young,  so maybe I will bring those Bibles back and use them at school rather All these Bibles were gifted to me for teaching the children at school.

For our supper tonight I am making a very old  dish – one I have not made for yonks! I make a cream sauce and add a tin of Corned Beef, chopped or shredded and sauteed onions, and serve it with mashed potatoes and peas. I used to love this dish when I was a little girl.

When we were in Aldis yesterday I saw a tin of Corned Beef on a shelf and thought ‘Ah-ha! I know what to do with that!’ I used to make this dish when we were first married  too, as it was quick and easy to make after a  long day at work.

Well, next week the school has Cross Country on the Thursday when I would normally be  teaching, so I do not have classes then. I  could be stuck on the wrong side of the river anyway if we get all that rain they are talking about!

What lesson did I learn today? Children take in far more than we realize or give them credit for! The kids blew me away today.

What am I grateful for today? Time at school with the children.

My saying for today is …
