Okay, I was up and out of bed extra early this morning – my day began much like any other day but then it changed radically!
I got up, made my coffee, then went up to my studio to have my Quiet Time and do my Bible study which was a little shorter than normal this morning.
I had a shower at just before six o’ clock and tried to get my mind in order! (Not possible!)
I woke Ken up at about half past seven and got him moving as he had to have another shower this morning. My goodness gracious golly gee, what a rigmarole as he had to make sure his was squeaky clean and germ free. He had certain lotions and potions to apply to make sure that he was so!
I had put out the clothes et cetera that he would be needing in the hospital and Ken packed them into the little hold all . Then we set sail on the tractor doing our normal trick of bashing, banging and bouncing across the river.
At eighty forty on the dot Mich’ arrived all the way up from the Central Coast – she had had to leave there at four in the morning to get here in time to pick us up – my little car being in at the garage, (I think kaput.)
The three of us then proceeded through to Port Macquarie where I went in with Ken to book him in for his op.
I was so impressed at the efficiency, friendliness and curtesy given to us. I asked the young lady at the reception desk when the visiting hours were and apparently they are from eight in the morning to eight at night! She asked me if I would like to be informed at all times what, where and when Ken was in the hospital happenings and I said that that would be wonderful.
So, right from the get-go I was sent texts as to what Ken was up to in the hospital – when he was moved from reception to this ward. When they took him to theatre, when the op started, when it was over, when he was once again in his bed in his ward! Incredible!
Now, because I had a dental appointment in the late afternoon, and Ken’s op was to be in the afternoon Mich’ and I had to kick our heels in town for several hours.
We headed across town to that quirky little restaurant on the water for a late breakfast and to watch all the walkers, runners, dogs, kids and people as they passed us by. Mich’ bought us a delicious breakfast, mashed avo’, with tomatoes and crumbled feta cheese on sour dough bread, and a coffee.
While we had our breakfast, I phoned the dental people to ask for any cancellation but they said that they were flat chat all day, but … in the end I got in half an hour early.
Mich’ and I went to Lifeline, Vinnies, Koorong Bookshop, Aldis and I even had my hair trimmed to waste time!
Eventually, it was time to turn around and go home, which we did happily.
At 3.33pm my man was out of theatre and on his way to his ward. Hallelujah!
At 4.45pm Mich’ and I were down at the river waiting for Peter to get us across on the tractor. Bless that man for all his help! We had packed the groceries and stuff into the tractor scoop and Peter drove us across and up to the shed, driving very sedately, I may add. He was very concerned that I not fall off!
Once we were home I went out to feed and water the chooks and guinea fowl and a little later I fed the dogs too.
Ken phoned me not long after we arrived home – I was expecting the man to sound woozy, but nope, he was as bright as a button as he was not given a general anaesthetic, but a spinal block of some sort, so he was not sleepy at all! He said he did not remember anything and was half sitting up in bed sipping on a coffee!
Ah! The miracle of medical science!
Mich’ and I were both whacked. I made us a pot of my curried cauliflower soup but neither of us ate, we will have that tomorrow evening then. Instead, I had bought a 1000 piece puzzle today at Vinnies, and we began to do that together. It is a beautiful one of about five giraffes drinking at a river. I reckon it will be a hair pullingly-difficult one for us, but it will keep us busy.
Mich’ decided that she would rather sleep on the large leather couch in our living area and we both sort of folded and were asleep before we even lay down for the night!
It had, after all, been a rather eventful day!
I phoned Ken to say, “Good night!” and was soon in the Land of Nod myself, fast asleep with little Raafie snuggled in bed with me!
It was good to know that Ken had had his op' and all was well with him. He was thoroughly enjoying all the attention and had wolfed down his supper finishing every little scrap! Sleep tight my man.
What lesson did I learn today? To remember that God is in control.
What am I grateful for today? That God was in control and obviously so in so many ways today.
My saying for today is …
