Blog for Sunday 9th March 2025

I was awake and ready to greet the new day at before four o’clock again. Wonderful!

At least I did not lose my hearing aids during the night! One has to look for the pluses at my age you know!

I fed Shamara, who is going through the food I got her at an alarming rate - especially if we are going to be stranded here for longer than we initially thought! I will have to make a plan for her to be well nourished at all times! We may have to starve, but she will not!

We had a further 42mm of rain overnight yet today was relatively free from any heavy downpours. We only had the odd soft, misty drizzle, but by the looks of the radar we may get a drenching tonight!

There was absolutely no chance of us getting off the farm today as the river is very high. Ken and I went down in the ute’ in the late morning and the river has risen a lot since I last took photos.

Our river crossing is getting wider and wider and a lot deeper compared to when we first arrived on the farm. But even so, the river has been a huge blessing to us for our cattle, especially when we are hit by the severe droughts in Australia.  At least this time of flooding we had my little car parked way up on the hill far from the river, so no chance of it being washed away this time!

Today I sorted through my art papers and the drawings that I have done and put them in a large plastic folder. I really should set aside time to do some of my art - something I

have always dreamt of doing but never do. Honestly, I think when I gasp my last here on earth, I will be so sorry for the things I did not do. Therefore, I should factor into my days, time for art and creativity - things that mean a LOT to me.

Although we did not have a lot of rain during the day - only the odd drizzle, by five thirty we were receiving the edge of the rain from up north. We are not sure whether we will receive a drenching or just some more drizzling rain.

Time will tell.

Today I sorted out my remaining art stuff in my studio, then sewed up some of the baby jersey’s I had knitted, but I need to buy buttons to finish them, before washing them. I am so happy that I have managed to make quite a few so far. Still plenty to make though!

This year we are going to be great-grandparents … so I need to get a wiggle on with my baby layettes for our grandchildren. All very exciting!

I am so happy as Kerry’ (our eldest) is going to be in Seattle when Ken and I go there in July/August this year to celebrate my 80th with me, Ken, Shelayne Mike, Jase, Sinead and Justin.

Kerry’ phoned me last night to let me know as she just could not keep that secret any longer! She arrives two days before we do, and I think she  leaves a day or two after us too.

I did not do anything in the main area of the shed today, (bar sort out my art things,) but as we will be here locked onto the farm for several days, I will have plenty of time to do more out there.

Ken and I could not go through to church today, so I listened to Tony’s (our pastor’s) sermon online instead. What a blessing the internet is at times like this.

I am meant to be going to Bingara with a friend of mine this coming Saturday, to celebrate our friend’s Kat’s birthday, but it looks horribly like I will not be able to get off the farm for that. Especially if the rain keeps falling.

What lesson did I learn today? To take baby steps towards achieving my goal, no matter  how big or small they may be.

What am I grateful for today? Time to be quiet on the farm without any interruptions.

My saying for today is …
