Blog for Monday 31st March 2025

Wow! The last day of March for 2025. Yikes! That means we are already a quarter of the way through this year people! Can you believe that?

I got out of bed at twenty to four this morning way ahead of my alarm clock. Again, I was met with silence this morning - the silence of no Shamara and no rain. The former left me feeling empty and sad, the latter with joy as we need the river to go down so we can get off the farm when we need to.

As soon as I was able to, I phoned the dentist to check on my appointment times as I was   not sure if I had taken them down correctly. I had not!

Then I phoned the lady who was going to frame that hundreds-of-years old fish scale wedding bouquet for us. I handed it in before Christmas I think, and she was to phone and let me know the cost.  When she had not come back to me I contacted her at the beginning of the year and she apologized saying that they had been so busy over the Christmas period, but she would contact me. But no show!  So, I contacted her this morning I phoned her again. She has turned down framing it as she is concerned that it is too fragile to tamper with., So, I think I will have to do it myself.

Then I began to draw and paint my other birthday invitation. This one is for those in our church – an afternoon tea party, which will be held on the Sunday afternoon. Our children have hired a B&B for a few days to celebrate my eightieth, and so we have had to split the family, and different friend groups up, as the B&B could not accommodate them all at the same time! Then I allowed the lettering to dry on the invitation while I did some housework.

I tidied the kitchen and bathroom and swept and mopped them. Took out the dry washing and will do that ironing tomorrow. I put away Paddy’s clothes that I ironed a few days ago, tidied Paddy and Matt’s beds ready for them when they come up next. I wiped the leather lounge suite that Raafie has so kindly (not!) muddied with his wet and horribly grubby paws and  covered.

I will get Ken to help me later to move the beds and mattresses – the other three beds – as they are standing on their heads at the moment., and are in the way of my getting in to the tall cupboard which I want to sort out and throw away.

I attempted to pack the tools but gave up as Ken must do that as I do not know what is what, or where it has to go. That is his department I am afraid!

At just after three o’clock I decided to do a few more crochet stitches on my baby shawl to give myself a break from housework, which can get rather monotonous.

I was listening to an audio book of mine “Scrublands” and then discovered that it has been published as a TV series, so I tuned into that on Stan. So far, it is pretty level with the book which is wonderful! I am enjoying it. It is just nice to have series to look forward to in the early evenings at the end of each day.

At the end of the day I was not that happy with the second invitation that I had drawn, so re-did it – well, sketched it out again and did the lettering. The painting I will finish tomorrow morning. Then I think I will get these printed so I can hand them out. Getting excited for my big day! I just cannot believe that I am almost eighty already!

Just shows, time flies when you are having fun!

What lesson did I learn today? To  keep plodding and one day I will have our home tidy and de-cluttered!

What am I grateful f or today? More sunshine.

My saying for today is…
