I was out of bed at ten to four this morning and stepped into a day that felt a little damp. It was heavily overcast although the weathermen did not predict any rain for our area, but … we will wait and see about that.
This morning Tamryn (Paddy and Ren’s middle child) flew out of Sydney airport at 6am on her way to Spain, where she will meet up with one of her old school friends. Then she is travelling to Scotland too before returning home over Easter. She is game for any adventure, and we wish her a trip crammed full of fun, laughter and new friends.
I had my Quiet Time and got Ken up at about a quarter to nine. He went down on the tractor to see if our river crossing was crossable. It was but only on the tractor as it is still too deep for the ute.
We will cross the river on the tractor today as we need more supplies so need to get off the farm, plus I have parcels to collect. I am hoping they were not left in our post-box - if so, they will be horribly soggy!
Well, we managed to get across the river on the tractor but yoh, that river is still deep and flowing hard and fast. It is not my favorite way to cross the river as I thought I would be more dignified at almost the age of eighty! There I was clinging onto the tractor roof strut, thinking I may be breathing my very last breath! Fear personified!
I managed to book a dentist appointment for Wednesday 12.30pm so had to change our Bible Study Group to the Friday morning - thankfully that was no problem for anyone.
Before we left the farm Ken had to collect one of our straying bulls that our neighbors on the back boundary of the farm had pushed into our Middle Camp. So that was good.
After leaving the farm we headed straight into Bunnings in Port Macquarie as I needed to buy some more large plastic containers and that deodorizing spray, because Shamara is wetting everything and there is nothing quite like cat pee to fill a room with a pungent odor! Shame she is now over 16 years old, and her bladder is not what it used to be, poor feline.
Today has been considerably cooler than the last few days as it only got to 18C and the sky looked like a grey cotton wool ceiling above us, but no rain thank goodness. I fear winter is lurking in the wings!
On arriving back on the other side of the river we had to transfer everything out my little car onto the tractor bucket and then we began the banging, bouncing and swaying across the river with me clinging onto the roof strut of the tractor for dear life again!
There was a lot of praying happening as we did that as the bucket was chocker block full and we hoped nothing would fall out!
It did not! Hallelujah!
Oh, what a welcome we received as we arrived at the top shed. All the dogs ran down the hill as they saw and heard the tractor growling and crawling up the hill, and Raafie was doing his bouncing like a yoyo on a string at the glass front door with Shamara nearby demanding more food! Yes! We were home again safe and sound and … with lots of food for everyone!
Ken had a quick nap and I unpacked and put most of the foodstuffs away, and as neither of us were hungry any more we had boiled eggs and toast and went to bed fairly early.
It was good to be on this side of the river again.
What lesson did I learn today? To be grateful for all the little things that often land up being the big things in the end!
What am I grateful for today? That our grocery cupboards are once again full!
My saying for today s …
