Blog for Friday 28th March 2025

A new day arrived and with it the forecast of 20 - 40mm of rain for us today and tomorrow. So hopefully we get out to go to our doctor and dental appointments today before the rain really arrives. Yep, I think we are about to be flooded in again, which is good for the farm, and to be honest I do not mind being here far from the maddening crowds, but it is hard when we have to miss things we had been looking forward to.

This Saturday we have the Sausage Sizzle to be held by our church for the community, and on Sunday we have a special celebration for our pastor and his wife – so we will have to miss those which is sad.

Moving on …

This morning in order to cross our river I had to cling onto the roof strut of the tractor, sitting on a towel on the wheel well as the rain had wet everything, and then hope to dodge the rain pouring out of the sky as we banged, bounced and boogied across the waters! My man sitting securely on the driver’s seat well UNDER the roof of the tractor! (And no, to your question – I do not wish to learn to drive the tractor!) Ha! This country living is NOT quiet people! It roars with adventures, surprises and fun happenings if you are game enough!

I am.

Ken and I whizzed around in Port Macquarie, then I bought some slices and biscuits for the Sausage Sizzle tomorrow night as I know we will not be able to attend that, and also for the special morning tea on Sunday. We stopped at Ian and Marg’s home in Wauchope, where I ran in and gave them to Margs to take on our behalf.

I also contacted Wendy who is in charge of the Sausage Sizzle event -  just to let her know that we cannot come through as it is far too dangerous for us to cross the river at night on  the tractor. The tractor lights are very feeble and one cannot see the road let alone cross a river that is high in the dark, and the area to cross safely is narrow!

As we got back home the rain had begun and I got nice and wet sitting on the tractor wheel well. I also  parked my little car way-way up on the hill in case the river flooded overnight or over the weekend.

I have a dental appointment on the 10th and 11th April and hopefully that will sort my tooth gap out! I just have to look like a hobo for a little longer that’s all! The little children at school are delighted as they reckon that I am like them now – like those little ones who have lost a tooth recently! I wish!

Today Ken and I had to wait in Port Macquarie for Ken’s doctor’s  appointment so we went to lunch at the Burger Urge near Kmart, seeing we were in that area. Ken had a beef burger and I had a chicken  one and we both really enjoyed them. Burgers are not normally on our preferred menu, but they were delicious.

It was so nice to see the happiness that filled Raafie when he saw us arriving back home. Honestly he bounced on those back legs of his, achieving great heights of happiness bounces up and down against the glass front door as he waited for us to open it! His love for us is very visible!

In the evening I watched the new series – there are only three episodes of “From Rock Star to Killer”. Very sad. The violence of control of that sort always is.

Although I climbed into bed early, again I did not fall asleep as quickly as usual. Instead I could hear the rain pitter-pattering down consistently. Yes, I have a feeling we will be on the farm unable  to get off it this weekend for sure.

What lesson did I learn today? Patience – yes,  more of it!

What am I grateful for today? That we got off and back onto the farm again today before the rain set in.

My saying for today is …
