“Morning comes whether you set the alarm or not.”
– Ursula K. Le Guin
I was up and out of bed like a flash – w-e-l-l my sort of speed of ‘flash’! More like slow motion flash!
Shamara slept in a little as she was not awake when I first walked out our bedroom and I was already dishing out her food before she opened an eye. Her age is catching up with her now, my poor feline.
I went up to my studio and had my Quiet Time before going downstairs again at about seven thirty.
There I mixed some cream cheese with a little icing sugar, and I shelled some pecan nuts – allowing half a pecan nut to a slice of cake. I also sliced the cake – a roll of date and nuts cake – and wrapped it in Cling Wrap, as it is awkward carting things on the tractor. I also packed some Maple syrup and decided to display the slices of cake once we were at Sandra and Noel’s place and not before.
When we had morning tea I put the cake slices on a very pretty plate of Sandra’s, smeared a dollop of the cream cheese mix on each slice, added a pecan, then dribbled a thin line of maple syrup over the top. It was very tasty served that way.
Oh! It was so good to be back at Bible Study Group – these people are such a big part of our lives now and us being flooded in for two weeks made me realize just how dear they really are to us.
It was great to be back!
Today I did the leading as I had done an in-depth study on the Letter of Jude and Ian (the other leader) had asked me to lead. I had written out pages and pages of notes so I suggested that we take Jude over two weeks, and so we ended up on verse 9 today and will continue next week.
We all had a good time chatting, catching up and discussing Jude. I love this group as I always come home glad that I was able to be there.
While we were at Bible Study Group Paddy was driving up from the Central Coast to be here with us for the weekend. I hope we do not have too much rain while he is here, or else he will have to return home because this time the river will come up very quickly seeing it has battled to come down completely after this last flood.
Ken went across on the tractor again to fetch Paddy and the two of them bounced over the river and up the hill to the top shed. After a few minutes of chitter chatter – we all went our separate ways – Ken and Paddy to have a snooze or lie down on their respective beds, and listen to an audio book, and I went up to my studio to do a spot of crocheting and listen t my audio book.
I decided that we will have individual Chicken Caesar salads for our supper tonight and by the time Paddy arrived I had already boiled the eggs that I will mash later with mayo’ for that dish. I will also fry up some bacon pieces for this salad and slice some avo’ too.
Oh dear! At about half past three the skies opened and down came more rain! There was the odd rumbling of thunder overhead too, and when I looked at the radar on my phone the weather was looking pretty serious. I would not be surprised if we were flooded in again!
Yahee! Well, the rain was short and sweet and over kad-overs very quickly. We got 11mm and the rain has moved on, thank goodness!
It is so nice to have Paddy here again, and the three of us had a lovely quiet and restful afternoon.
I prepared all the ingredients for the Chicken Caesar salads I will use for supper tonight, so it will just be a “One-two-three and supper is served gentlemen!”
At the moment we have all the cattle up at the top shed and it is lovely looking out seeing those beautiful red coats against the green of the grass and I love hearing that gravelly bellow of the bulls so close by.
I am looking forward to an early night and maybe to listen to my audio book again, and then tomorrow I will be energetic and do some more clearing of the stuff out in the shed.
But for now, I pretend it is not there.
What lesson did I learn today? Just to enjoy the moment.
What am I grateful for today? The safe arrival of Paddy on the farm.
My saying for today is …
